BEST SKI RUNS IN SAVOIE

Who is in a better position than our ski instructors to advise you on the best slopes to ski on this winter?

Here is a little recap of our ski instructors’ favourite slopes in the Tarentaise Valley in Savoie.

BEST SKI RUN IN MERIBEL

Oxygène ski instructor in Meribel, Pat Lecomte, loves the Combe de Vallon ski run in Meribel and says get there early in the day to take advantage of this piste while it is freshly groomed. At nearly 3,000m altitude you can expect great views. And it’s a nice warm up for your legs too being an epic 3.3kms long with around 1,000m of descent.

BEST SKI RUN IN VAL THORENS

In Val Thorens, Oxygène’s favourite run is the Génépi slope. “Génépi is a typical savoyard spirit usually drunk after a meal that tastes sweet and smooth at first then slowly warms up giving a slightly burning sensation in your throat. And so does the Génépi slope, with a smooth and easy start and a final challenging steep section.” say Pierre and Yohann, ski instructors and co-founders of Oxygène in Val Thorens. They like to take their level 2 and 3 skiers on it once they are competent enough. The terrain is varied and the sides of the slope are perfect to improve your jump turns because of its elevated sides.

BEST SKI RUN IN VAL D’ISERE

From Charlotte and Adrien’s point of view, in Val d’Isère, the Bellevarde area is the Rolls Royce of the on and off-piste runs. Steep and challenging, “La Face de Bellevarde” is the mythical run where many World Cups have taken place for years since 1990.

BEST SKI RUN IN BELLE PLAGNE

Julien is a local skier and snowboarder from La Plagne and knows Belle Plagne and Paradiski inside out. For him the best ski run in Belle Plagne is “Mont de la Guerre”. “Wild and magical” are his own words to describe this beautiful, south-facing slope that goes from top of Verdons all the way down to Champagny. Facing Courchevel, the view from “Mont de La Guerre” will be engraved in your mind for years to come.

BEST SKI RUN IN LA PLAGNE

If you are an early bird, you can take advantage of La Plagne’s first tracks before the sun rises and ski tour up the Mont Saint Sauveur blue run and have it all to yourself as you descend before the ski lifts open. We also have to mention the Piste Mauve, because we just love chocolate… ski on the piste Mauve and find the Milka Cow to get some chocolate goodies.

BEST SKI RUN IN COURCHEVEL

In Courchevel, our top notch ski slope is Verdon, mainly because you can ski at night on it, which makes it even more beautiful and charming. Our ski instructor Guillaume likes to take our clients out taxi skiing on it at night, as you might see on this little video from last year: Oxygène, it’s Magic.

BEST SKI RUN IN LA TANIA

Skiing in the trees is the epitome of skiing according to Guillaume, Oxygène’s head ski instructor in La Tania, which is why he loves the Folyères ski run. Whether it’s snowing, sunny or foggy, skiing down Folyères is a great choice taking the forest on a lovely playful piste. Enjoy the beauty of nature at its best.

BEST SKI RUN IN LES MENUIRES

If you’re headed to Les Menuires this winter, get yourself over to La Masse. The other side of the valley from the main part of resort, this mountain is not to be missed. It has a bit of something for everyone. The top of the mountain (above the mid-station of the lifts) offers challenging red and black runs from the very top together with multiple off-piste opportunities including a great itinerary run down to the Lac de Lou. The bottom half of the mountain is more beginner and intermediate-friendly with blue and green runs. To get there ski through the centre of the resort and through the tunnel under the road.
