13 REASONS TO WORK AS A SKI INSTRUCTOR FOR OXYGENE

Are you a fully qualified ski instructor looking for a new ski school in which to pursue your career? You have a real passion for teaching but aren’t sure how to go about choosing a new ski school? The best option isn’t always the most obvious one. Why not consider Oxygene? We are a ski school that is large enough to offer a variety of work but small enough to care about each and every instructor and which has a fantastic team spirit across the company.

1. Good pay

Time served is important but not the only factor in instructor’s pay. “We want our instructors to have a sense of satisfaction and reach their goals, both personally and financially” says Yohann, co-founder of our ski school in Val Thorens. The hourly rate instructors are paid varies in relation to which resort they teach in, how long they have been with Oxygene, their skills and their commitment to their work. At Oxygene, we value teamwork.

2. A busy season

A good hourly rate is one thing but Oxygene assures a quantity and quality of work all season-long. Our clientele being mostly international means we work full time, all season long, guaranteeing a good number of hours per season for each instructor.

3. A variety of great resorts

Oxygene has ski schools in 9 of the best ski resorts in the French Alps: La Plagne, Belle Plagne, Val d’Isere, Meribel, Courchevel, La Tania, Les Menuires, Val Thorens and Megeve. Whatever your personality, lifestyle and ambitions, one of these resorts is sure to suit you. If you’re not sure which, we can help you work it out.

4. A variety of lessons

Variety is the spice of life and the same applies to teaching skiing. We teach children and adults, snow-garden to expert, off-piste, snowboard, adaptive skiing and all of these in groups and private formats. You’ll never be bored working for us.

5. Lessons fairly distributed amongst instructors

Each instructor is important at Oxygene, whether it is their first or twentieth season. Lessons are allocated based on the competences of the instructors (languages, disciplines etc) and their motivation, not just how long they’ve been teaching with us.

6. We match our students to our instructors, Tinder-style!

“Our job is to match instructors and students. It’s a question of knowing which instructor will work best for a certain skier” explains Patrick, instructor manager in Meribel for the last 15 years. The bookings teams know their instructors well. Lessons are carefully allocated to help both instructor and skier make a connection and trust each other to make the lesson go as smoothly as possible.

7. Small groups

Oxygene limits its group lessons to 3, 6, 8 or 10 students, according to the resort. No need to count up to 12 (or even 15) every two turns. “After 5 minutes I know the names of all of my students. I can concentrate on each one and offer them personalised instruction.” says Antoine, an Oxygene instructor in Val d’Isere.

8. Free training

Instructor training is important to us at Oxygene. We train our instructors to learn new disciplines, new languages and offer to update their understanding in other important areas such as avalanche rescue, snowpack reading and more. “Our aim is to provide training to continually improve the performance of our instructors”, says Julien Favre, director of Oxygene Belle Plagne and Oxygene’s adaptive ski programme. “In 15 years, Oxygene has become an adaptive ski specialist. Disabled sports associations from around the world come to ski with us. Many Oxygene instructors have already been trained in sit-skiing and we’re not stopping there.

9. Resources to facilitate your work

Your comfort at work is essential. This is why we make human and practical resources available (a ski room close to the slopes, snow-garden helpers, meeting point coordinators, off-piste bags etc).

10. Professional ski equipment at the best prices

We have relationships with the top brands meaning we can offer you the best prices on ski equipment and accessories. Another great reason to join the Oxygene family.

11. A fantastic team spirit in a tight-knit team

Everyone knows each other in every Oxygene ski school. We all work better together when there is a real team spirit. To this end, we organise events and get-togethers throughout the season to help our teams bond.

12. We work for you year-round

As well as our teams in resort we have a central headquarters where around 12 people work all year to keep you, the instructors, busy throughout the winters. Sales, marketing and accounting are their priority. Ski school students don’t fall from the sky, we have to go and find them, and that’s what we do, 12 months a year.

13. A ski school looking to the future

At Oxygene we are focused on the evolution of the ski market, keeping in touch with new trends. We anticipate changes in the market and react to them thanks to our sales and marketing team. We’re not content just to see what happens.

Let us reassure you that at Oxygene, our instructors are at the heart of what we do and we can’t wait to count you as one of our instructors and ambassadors.
